Why Not Travel this New Year’s Eve?

New Year’s Eve parties are always highly anticipated as “the party of the year” and many feel such immense pressure to plan the right event, as to not be disappointed. Each year, revelers live and learn a little more. One year, they may find themselves waiting hours in the freezing cold for a taxi. Another year, the chosen dress attire wasn’t very practical. Perhaps some of the drink and restroom lines were too long, the ticket prices too high and the massive crowds too much.

Each year, people look for a new kind of experience that fosters an environment of “letting loose” and “going wild,” yet also one that is comfortable. Here are some of the best New Year’s parties around the world.

If you’re looking for celebrity style parties, then you may have to travel to New York City, South Beach/Miami or San Francisco. You can expect tickets to cost anywhere from 100 to 200 dollars (which includes drinks and possibly dinner) and dress codes to be in full effect.

Pasadena, California has been home to some of the nation’s most treasured New Year’s Eve parties and New Year’s Day festivities for more than a century. The 121st Tournament of Roses parade will take place on January 1, 2010 at 8 am, featuring towering floats designed from roses, high-stepping horses, ballroom dancers, pyrotechnic displays and marching bands. Following the parade, the 91st Rose Bowl football game will take place featuring the top two college teams in the country. The history of the Rose Bowl began as the “Tournament East-West football game” in 1902 with Stanford playing the University of Michigan. After a score of 49-0 (Michigan), the officials wondered if chariot races, ostrich races and other events would be better than football. However, football returned with a vengeance in 1916, with The State College of Washington vs. Brown University in the first annual Rose Bowl game. With sports and parades, Pasadena has something for the whole family.

There are celebrations pretty much everywhere, so it’s up to you what sort of New Year’s Eve parties you’d like to attend. For some people, it’s all about the warm weather and the beaches. After all, why not start the new year with a pleasant vacation an escape from the dreary winter weather? For others, it’s about New Year traditions and experiencing the Big Apple like they’ve seen on television since they were kids. For sports fanatics, it’s about the big game and tailgating with friends.

New Year’s Eve is the highlight of the year for many people. Find great New Years Eve ideas for celebrating this festive occasion at the Christmas Ideas site.
